The ServSafe® food safety management program has been developed by the National Restaurant Association to assist the foodservice industry in ensuring the highest standards of food safety are met.
ServSafe certification is valid for 5 years and recognized throughout the United States. Based on whether you are new to food service or a seasoned veteran, you may choose whether to go through the training course or simply review on your own and take the exam.
ServSafe® classes are available either at your location or various North Shore, MA and Southern NH locations offered privately or publicly. There is a minimum requirement of 4 students to book a class at your location.
Classes are held from 9am to 3pm on weekdays. Course instruction is in English and takes about 3 to 4 hours with the exam following instruction that same day. Exams may be written form or taken online. Exams are available also in Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Valid photo identification is required to take the exam.
Online exams require a location with WIFI and each student to bring a laptop or tablet. Cell phones are not recommended for taking this exam.
Exams are processed and graded only by the National Restaurant Association and not the instructor.
The instructor will return completed exams within 2 business days to National Restaurant Association. The National Restaurant Association will provide exam results about 7-10 days later. Certificates will be available for students to print through their online accounts at ServSafe.com.
Results from online testing are available immediately following the exam. Certificates are usually available to print within 24 hours of passing the online exam.
Passing score for the ServSafe® exam is 70%. You may take the exam twice within 30 days. If you do not pass on your second attempt you must wait 60 days from then to retest. You may take the exam 4 times within a 12 month period. Exam proctoring fee and material costs will apply for each retest.
The course textbook is optional and NOT included with the course. We strongly recommend that students without foodservice experience purchase and read it before attending the class. It is also a great reference book to have at your establishment or job site. You can purchase a copy of the ServSafe Manager, 7th Edition (Revised 2022 version) through ServSafe.com or Amazon.com.
The cost of the ServSafe® course with exam is $150.00 per person with a commitment of 5 students at your location*. There is a nonrefundable deposit of $50.00 per person due at a scheduled date prior to the class. The balance is due by business check or cash at the time of class. Credit/debit payments for the balance must be made prior to the class. In the event of an emergency, the paid balance of the course per person (minus each deposit) may be applied to another class within 60 days. Otherwise, a refund may be issued minus the refund fees applied by PayPal.
The cost of exam proctoring without the course is $125.00 per person and includes study material upon request. There is a $50.00 per person nonrefundable deposit due prior the exam proctoring. The balance is due by business check or cash at the time of class. Credit/debit payments for the balance must be made prior to the exam.
*If location is more than 20 miles outside of the North Shore, MA, a travel fee of $50.00 will apply. Additionally there is a $50 fee for travel to downtown Boston and/or when a paid parking garage is necessary.
